PLACES – Learn how transitioning youth who come to V.O.I.C.E.S. ensure they have a place to call home… For youth exiting the foster care system, finding stable housing can be a huge problem. V.O.I.C.E.S. created the PLACES program to help meet the housing needs of its youth members. PLACES is a subsidized housing and support program that is funded through the state of California. A collaborative project between V.O.I.C.E.S. Napa and the McPherson Neighborhood Initiative, the Explorations program supports youth to develop a personal plan for success in the areas of education, employment and career development. These areas highly impact a youth’s ability to have a solid foundation for advancement in their life. The program includes workshops, one-on-one support and opportunities to connect with co-located staff representing numerous employment and education agencies in Napa County. Youth’s parents are also encouraged to access the center to receive the information they need to support their child’s future. CHANGES – At V.O.I.C.E.S. a “healthy” person is seen as someone taking care of their overall wellness including one’s mental, physical, nutritional, preventative, and spiritual well being. Learn more… The CHANGES program promotes the overall wellness of V.O.I.C.E.S. members by increasing their access to health related resources and services. Areas of wellness include mental and physical health, food and nutrition, substance abuse, and spiritual growth. CHANGES provides opportunities for youth members to identify their wellness needs within their mind, body and soul - and then encourages them to advocate for and take charge of their own well-being. Independent Living Program (ILP) – To achieve independent living is a complex journey for transitioning youth. Learn how V.O.I.C.E.S. supports them through this process… The Independent Living Program provides training and coaching to help youth members develop the skills needed for independence after emancipating from the foster care system. The program includes individualized coaching, life conferences with supportive friends and family members, life-skills workshops and social gatherings to build relationships and support. Caregivers are also provided resources to help youth on their road to independence. |
