*My Story

I am

A “young” woman. Lover of trees and green hills. One dedicated to growing in wisdom and compassion. Explorer of mindfulness. Friend. Sister. Daughter. Organizer. Gardener. Coach. The spirit learning to live in this body.

I earn my daily bread

Connecting people to community service and social change through my work at The Volunteer Center Serving San Francisco and San Mateo Counties. I manage Volunteer Services, overseeing community outreach and working with two programs that support people with disabilities to serve at local non profits. I love witnessing the transformation possible for individuals through service.

How my leadership has changed as a result of OTV

: I’ve learned the beauty and wisdom of process. Before OTV, I used to be much less patient with group process, but now I find it far more fascinating and engaging; in fact I feel much less need to get anywhere but where the group is. Of course, I also know the importance of balancing this with action, and OTV led me to think BIG in my plans for change in the world. I was held to account for taking concrete steps to move forward in my life. I established my ground in a way that was necessary for moving forward in a significant way.

Where I’ve come from and where I expect to be in the next 3-5 years

I hope the next 5 years see me growing as a wise and kind human being.  In 2011 I will have almost completed my training to become a meditation teacher and I look forward to bringing this important tool of healing to my work in social change.  I would ultimately love to support agents of social change in becoming more centered, awake and empowered in the work they do. I am also excited to make Buddhist teachings accessible to more people – bringing it out of retreat centers and into the streets.  I contemplate returning to school to complete my masters in psychology in the next two years and I hope to use it to support this work.
