I've often thought about how to greater bridge the graphic design and production work that I do with my passion for social justice and social change. I just got an email where it seems that there's a venue where I can be in dialog with other designers about just this issue. I'm going to this meeting! =)

What is the role of graphic communication in the social justice movement? How do we effectively use graphic communication to get our messages out in a way that reaches the hearts and minds of our communities and society at large? What choices do we make in representation in our designs - what images and language do we use? How do we help in creating a message of diversity and positivity?
Join Favianna Rodriguez of Tumis Design for a colorful presentation and group discussion of how strong and effective graphic communication is an essential part of organizing for social change. This presentation is for emerging designers, established designers, nonprofit in-house designers, organizers, and anyone interested in graphic design as part of the social justice movement.
Designs on Democracy roundtables are held on the first Tuesday of each month at the Eastside Arts Alliance. We aim to create a space for activist designers to get together and share knowledge and experiences and create a community to work together in a spirit of unity - not competition - to further the progressive social justice movement.
